Bay success is right on cue for Mac

WHITLEY Bay’s Wayne McDonald (off 21) and Gateshead’s Daniel Mallet (off 35) contested the final of the latest one-day handicappe­d pro-am at Whitley Bay Snooker Centre.

After a titanic struggle - with neither player any way near his best - it was McDonald, who was conceding 14 points a frame, who was the comfortabl­e 3-0 winner.

In the semi-final shoot-outs McDonald (pictured below) beat fellow seasider Dave Kidd 3-1.

Mallett, who was receiving 42 points a frame start, defeated Wallsend’s Billy Hunter 3-1.

The highest break of the day award went to Elliot Slessor for his run of 115.

Slessor also had notable breaks of 77, 58 and 59.

Competing off level terms in the three-frame plate final, Whitley Bay’s Gerry McNally was taken to a decider before clinching a 2-1 win over South Shields’ John Smith.

McNally also claimed the high break award. ■■PRUDHOE Snooker Club’s 4-1 home win against Westfield B took them to within a point of Newcastle and Gateshead League leaders Gateshead A.

Gateshead edged past Throckley Bank Top 3-2.

Six points adrift in joint third place are Westfield A and Associates A. ■■STAKEFORD B remain top of the Ashington Chisholm LWC League - despite losing 5-1 to Blyth Cons.

Blyth now join Whitley Bay A in joint second place after sharing the spoils 3-3 with Seaton Terrace A.

Moving up to third are the improving Stakeford A. ■■SEATON Hirst C’s Walter Appleby rattled off a fantastic break of 91 against Choppingto­n B to help his team stay top of the billiards’ section of the Ashington Veterans League.

Choppingto­n A are hot on their heels in second.

Veterans A and B are a further point away in joint third.

In the snooker section, two points separate leaders Choppingto­n B from Seaton Hirst C and Choppingto­n A, Bomarsund and Vets B in joint third.
