Plan’s not working so change players

I AM finding it puzzling that Malcolm Macdonald, for whom I have the utmost respect, has been so vociferous in his condemnation of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

I wonder if, going back a number of years, the same criticism would have been levelled at the likes of Barrie Thomas, Ron McGarry and Peter Withe, all ploughing a lone furrow up front and letting defenders know they were there.

It has been said that Mitrovic does not play to orders, and that is why Benitez is reluctant to include him in his team plans.

That being the case, can I suggest that the current players holding down a position – who are playing to plan – are not doing their job properly, or else the plan is in need of a drastic overhaul? KEN PATTIE Cramlington
