NEW Hartley Juniors almost pulled off a major shock in round four of the NFA Minor Cup before losing 3-2 to adult side Walker Central.

New Hartley were the only youth team in the competitio­n and this tie went down to the last kick of the game.

The teenagers led on 30 minutes through Drew Eastlake.

Straight aged the break Walker scored twice in five minutes to go 2-1 up - but in the 89th minute Hartley drew level courtesy of Lou Hodgson.

Walker went straight upfield and scored but deep into stoppage time Hartley were given a penalty - and missed it!

ROUND three of the Tynemet College NFA Rangers Under-16 Cup is staged tomorrow.

Ties (all 1.30) are: Newcastle Benfield v Blyth Spartans, Cullercoat­s Blacks v North Shields, Wideopen and District v Newcastle Westgate and Ponteland United PSG v Cullercoat­s Whites.

TOMORROW sees the third round of the Shiremoor Press NFA Under-13 Boys Cup.

Ties (all 1.30) are: West Moor v Blyth Town, Cramlingto­n Whites v Newcastle City, Wallsend BC Greens v Wallsend BC Yellows and Stakeford v Montagu and North Fenham Blues.

PONTELAND claimed a 6-0 victory at Prudhoe YC Tigers in the Apollo Doors Gateshead Youth League’s Under-13 Bridges League Cup.

ALNWICK Town defeated Prudhoe YC 5-0 in the Apollo Doors Gateshead Youth League’s Under-16 Division.

At under-15 level, Hexham were 2-0 winners against Monkton Villa.

NEWCASTLE City Juve meet Cramlingto­n Town Whites tomorrow (1.30) in round three of the Goals Newcastle NFA Under-14 Colts Cup.

Blyth Town entertain Montagu and North Fenham Blues.

THE McDonald’s NFA Under-15 Boys’ Cup is at the quarter-final stage tomorrow.

Ties (all 1.30) are: Whitley Bay SC Blues v Newcastle City Milan, Bedlington Vipers v Newcastle City, Ellington v Cramlingto­n Juniors and Wallsend BC v Red House Farm Eagles.

CLASSROOMS around the North East are set to take part in the first National Schools’ Football Week from February 5-9.

The event is run in conjunctio­n with the English Schools’ FA PlayStatio­n Schools’ Cup - the biggest grassroots football competitio­n in England.

Schools involved will be staging football-themed events and lessons throughout the week.
