Galloway’s loan spell at SOL may be cut short

- JAMES HUNTER

SUNDERLAND could cut short Everton defender Brendan Galloway’s loan spell on Wearside to give them more room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.

Left-back Galloway is keen to play first-team football but finds himself behind Bryan Oviedo and Adam Matthews in the pecking order on Wearside - and Black Cats’ boss Chris Coleman expects Sunderland to talk to the Toffees about ending the season-long loan agreement early.

Such a move would benefit the Wearsiders by freeing up wages to bring in new faces this month, while it would allow Everton to loan Galloway out to another club where he may be given more game time.

Coleman said: “Brendan has been short of game time.

“He has not been a moment’s problem but he wants to play firstteam football.

“His experience here is he has been short of games.

“I think there will be a conversation there.”

England under-21 international Galloway joined the Black Cats in the summer and began the season at leftback - but he failed to cement a place in the side and Oviedo was restored to the team when he was fit.

Galloway, who spent part of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, has made just five starts in the Championship this term.
