Scale of the comeback takes the Wind out Silksworth’s sails

TWR WEARSIDE LEAGUE

-

STRUGGLING Windscale scored twice in the last five minutes as they fought back from two goals down to earn a dramatic point against Silksworth CW.

Paul Monk gave the Wearside outfit the lead on 25 minutes as his cross-shot floated over Windscale goalkeeper James Dolan and landed in the net.

Cook then doubled his side’s advantage two minutes before halftime when his low drive from just inside the area flew past Dolan.

Things could have been even worse for the Cumbrians on the hour-mark had Dolan not saved Adam Storey’s penalty.

The hosts rallied in the last 10 minutes and gave themselves a chance to get back into the game when Laurie Black pulled a goal back.

Then, in injury time, Lewis Jolly secured a point for his side as his long-distance free-kick flew past Silksworth goalkeeper Joe Clayton.

Darlington Reserves wasted the chance to move into the top five as they were beaten at home by Gateshead Leam Rangers.

Efforts from Nathan Bailey and Dean McCallum put the visitors in control at half-time after a dominant first-half display.

Michael O’Connor gave the Quakers some hope when he pulled a goal back but four minutes later the game was put out of reach when Jordan Fraser secured the points for Leam Rangers. ■■BOTTOM club Jarrow Reserves suffered a humiliating 17-1 loss at West Auckland Tunns in the only match played in the Durham Alliance Combination League.
