five ways to...

KEEP YOUR EYES HEALTHY

-

1 GO for regular eye tests

HAVE your eyes checked by a trained eye specialist who can detect early signs of problems.

An eye test not only determines whether you need glasses, but can also spot conditions that can be treated effectively if detected early.

2 EAT healthy foods

A DIET rich in fruits and vegetables has been shown to promote eye health.

Dark leafy greens which are rich in antioxidants can help prevent the formation of cataracts.

Consuming fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, halibut, mackerel, sardines and tuna, is also beneficial.

3 KEEP a healthy weight

BEING overweight puts you at a higher risk of developing diabetes which may eventually lead to vision loss.

Considerable weight loss could potentially reverse eye damage caused by diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

4 WEAR sunglasses

SUNGLASSES can protect your eyes from the ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Look for shades that block 99–100% of UVA and UVB radiation and always buy a reputable brand.

5 REST your eyes regularly

IF you work all day at a computer screen, you may forget to blink often and end up with dry, fatigued eyes.

For every 20 minutes that you look at a screen, look at something else that is around 20ft in front of you for 20 seconds.

Doing this will reduce strain by stretching eye muscles.
