Draw gives Song lots to sing about

-

HILLSONG Newcastle all but secured promotion to the Premier Division when they drew 3-3 with Saint Charles RC Church Gosforth.

The match was due to be played on grass but because of the weather was switched to a 3G pitch at Excelsior Academy.

Saint Charles started the stronger and Tom Martin saw the ball come to him from a Hillsong error to fire his side ahead after six minutes.

In the 32nd minute Hillsong were awarded a penalty and Gary Frizzle converted to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Six minutes into the second half Saint Charles regained the lead courtesy of Steven Langstaff and David Healey increased the advantage to 3-1 with a peach of a goal from 20 yards.

However, a mistake in the Saint Charles’ box enabled substitute Richie Hemmingway to force the ball though the goalkeeper’s legs to reduce the deficit on 77 minutes.

Six minutes later, Evan Holmes drilled the ball home to salvage his side a point.

That more or less gives Hillsong promotion unless teams below them win all their games and make up a 34-goal difference.

All other games fell foul of waterlogged pitches.
