demic, business, industrial, public sector, social and residential ventures in pursuit of living better.”
A new marketing campaign linked to the Helix branding is being launched around the time of the Great Exhibition of the North to attract investment from around the world.
Meanwhile, building work at the former site of the Vaux Brewery site in Sunderland could soon resume after the city council revealed it is searching for new contractors.
Work on the development – which will be made up of office, retail and residential buildings – was put on hold after outsourcing giant Carillion collapsed in January.
Sunderland City Council and its development partner Siglion – a joint venture between the council and Carillion – have now issued tenders for securing new contractors to take over the building work.
Council leader Harry Trueman said: “Though the news of Carillion’s collapse was a set-back, this has only served to galvanise the city in its determination to deliver job creating development at Vaux.
“Vaux has always been a flagship site and many have described it as a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity. This development is about expanding the footprint of our city centre, and bringing more jobs and economic prosperity to Sunderland.
“Vaux is a site we have fought to deliver. We know it will bring about a step-change in our city centre and, teamed with other city developments, we are all pleased to be getting back on track.”
