Fire crews battle blaze on MoD land
A FIRE has been burning in the Northumberland countryside for two days.
Firefighters from Northumberland Fire and Rescue were first called to the blaze at Prestwick near Ponteland at 8.25am on Monday.
The fire broke out on land owned by the Military of Defence but it is not known how it started. A total of 13 firefighters were at the scene on Wednesday with two fire engines and a high volume pump.
They are expected to remain in the area for another day.
Fire crews had also been at the Otterburn army training base last week after two grassfires were caused by sparks from bullets.
