Crime Reporter HE was able to abuse countless children without even stepping out of his front door after discovering a mobile phone app that would help him carry out his sick crimes.

Michael Coulter is today behind bars after he was unmasked as a cyber sex beast who targeted young girls using the popular live-streaming app Live.me. And today the detectives who brought him to justice have issued a stark warning to parents urging them to make sure they understand all the apps their children download and use.

Det Sgt Allen Hull, from Northumbria Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT), said: “You can see your child sitting quietly on their phone in the same room as you and think they are safe, but they could be talking to a paedophile. The issue with social media is it attracts children, and wherever you get children you will get paedophiles”

And Det Sgt Dave Henderson added: “You don’t think your children are at risk in the comfort of your own home.”

When POLIT officers arrested 65-year-old Coulter and seized his devices it was the first time the force had come across a paedophile that used the American app Live.me to abuse children.

Live.me is a live streaming video app that allows users to watch or broadcast live-stream videos.

Based in Santa Monica in the USA it can be accessed from a phone, tablet or computer and streams around 300,000 hours of footage a day.
