City league boosted by new teams

-

THE Under-11 Girls Newcastle City League is looking as strong as it was last season going into the new campaign.

A few new schools have entered and teams have had to be split into West and East Leagues.

The top two from each of the leagues will meet to play for the Champions Cup in March.

The first outing this season for the girls will be in the ESFA Competition.

Last season St Teresa’s were champions for a third consecutive season but St Alban’s will be among the favourites this time around.

They have to first make it through the qualifying stages.

Four groups will play over two nights - at Kenton School on Tuesday and Walker Riverside Academy on Wednesday.

The winners of each group will meet on Finals Night on Friday, October 12 at Benfield School (3.30).

The girls will also have their own Knockout Cup sponsored by the Beck family and the Motor Neurone Disease Association, whose final will be on Wednesday March 27.

The older age groups within the city will contest the Under-13 and Under-15 City Cups - the former having its largest entry to date.
