- By Amaris Cole

THE WINNERS of the Speaking Volumes Christian Book Awards were announced this week at the 30th International Christian Resources Exhibition.

Sharon Dirckx won the adult category award, with ‘Why?’, while Andy Robb stole the children’s category prize with his book, ‘Professor Bumblebrain’s Bonkers Book on Parables’.

The authors were presented with the highly coveted prized by Songs of Praise presenter Pam Rhodes, winning £1,000 and a framed certificate.

After being shortlisted by a panel of experts, the two winning writers were those that ranked highest in the public vote.

Sharon says she is delighted for the recognition of her book, which tackles the oft-repeated question about suffering and helps the reader make sense of a hurting world.

“My book is about taking away the road blocks to Jesus,” she explained.

Andy too was excited to receive the award in the children’s category as the Professor Bumblebrain’s Bonkers book series is specifically written to make Jesus’ teaching digestible to all children.

Paula Renouf, Director of Speaking Volumes, the scheme that organises and sponsors the awards, said: “Sharon and Andy won’t be able to retire to the Italian Riviera with their prize money but it might help create an opportunity for some breathing space before they work on another masterpiece!”
