Monday 2 June to Monday 30 June Derby Cathedral is hosting the first solo exhibition of Ashbourne acrylics artist Anna Thomas entitled Beyond the Garden Fence in the Sir Richard Morris Lounge throughout June. Exhibitions Officer Geoff Robson first saw Mrs. Thomas’s work two years ago at the Derby Open Exhibition. “What struck me about the painting which the judges had selected was that although from a distance it looked indistinct and impenetrable the closer you looked the more you saw”, He said. Since the arrival of her four children, Mrs. Thomas has concentrated on painting and smaller scale sculpture.

Friday 6th June Bradford Cathedral’s Artspace project has arranged a unique evening of story-telling in dance by South Asian Arts Organisation Kala Sangam. This year’s Artspace programme is based on textiles and compliments the new fabric hangings that have been commissioned by the Cathedral. Story-telling in Dance uses Kala Sangam’s expertise in spoken word, dance and music to weave stories in the atmospheric environment of the Cathedral. The performance includes the imaginative use of textiles within the dance, with specially-composed music, and the stories are woven around values central to everyone: our need for hope and love at 7.30pm. Tickets £8 (£5 full time students)
