Students reach further at careers fair
MORE than 40 employers and organisations recently attended one of the biggest ever careers fairs at Penwith College, hosted as part of the college’s National Careers Week celebrations.
The careers fair attracted students across the entire campus to explore a diverse range of future education or employment routes in a variety of sectors.
Students were inspired to connect with local and national employers to realise their ambitions and pick up key tips to boost their employability after college.
The careers fair also allowed students to receive first-hand information from top employers, invaluable resources and expert advice about their next steps towards their dream careers.
The careers fair aimed to expose students to a range of possibilities that they might not have previously explored and included representatives of a broad range of sectors, including the NHS, Royal Air Force, Software Cornwall, Hertzian and a variety of universities.
Students also had the opportunity to speak to the team from the University Centre Truro and Penwith, which offers students an outstanding university experience across the college’s campuses in Penzance, Truro and Bodmin.
First-year Health and Social Care student Lauren is a member of the college’s Medics Academy, which has a strong track record of supporting students to enter careers in medicine and attend top universities.
Lauren said: “I spoke to the RAF today because I want to be an RAF nurse and they have pointed me in the right direction. This career really appeals to me.
“I absolutely love the Medics Academy; they plan so much for us and it compliments my Health and Social Care course really well.”
Tim Moody, employability and careers lead at the college, said: “We are thrilled with the success of our latest careers fair and we’d like to say a huge thank-you to all of the organisations and exhibitors that made it possible.”
