Two concerts to be staged for Ruthven music festival
THE RUTHVEN Parish Festival will be spread over two days this year, organisers have announced.
The well-regarded music festival on the Perthshire border will include a night concert on June 12 and one in the afternoon of June 14.
The popular celebration of classical music will stage a Baroque and Beyond event on the first day with music by Handel, Bach, Buxtehude, Corelli and baritone Mendelssohn.
Howard Duthie will conduct the Ruthven Festival Musicians and he will be joined on stage by Perth choir Chansons and Rudolf Hillebrand.
Co- organiser Evelyn Hood said: “Rudolf is a highly regarded singer of oratorio and we are delighted he is able to join us, especially as the June 12 concert features a Bach cantata and passages from Mendelssohn’s Elijah, which will be ideally suited for his magnificent voice.”
The second concert will be conducted by Allan Young and will celebrate Scotland and Germany’s shared musical inheritance.
Mr Hillebrand and Audrey Mattner will sing songs from their respective countries and the festival musicians will perform works by Mendelssohn, Haydn, Marie Dare, Darke and Bruch and traditional Scottish tunes.
Booking opens on May 3 and tickets, which cost £20 for each concert, can be bought by emailing ruthven festival@tiscali.co.uk
