Men’s shed group will lay down foundations
THE NEWLY-FORMED Carnoustie and Monifieth Men’s Shed will have its first general meeting at the Panmure Centre on Kinloch Street, Carnoustie, on Tuesday from 1.30pm.
The meeting will see the group elect office bearers and its committee.
Founder members have been working to develop plans and are now seeking to become a constituted group for funding purposes.
Interests within the group cover a broad spectrum that includes, woodwork, cycle maintenance, gardening and computing.
Currently based in a garage space at the Panmure Centre, the men’s shed aims to provide a venue for social gatherings and a platform to offer talks from outside contributors.
Men’s shed groups are proving increasingly popular across the UK, but their origins lie inAustralia. The concept emerged from the knowledge that many men enjoy making, repairing or even tinkering with small projects, while socialising with others who hold similar interests.
The Carnoustie and Monifieth Men’s Shed aims to reflect the diversity of other memberships, where men of all ages and backgrounds get involved.
Donald McNeill, Angus Council communities officer, said the group is very keen to encourage others to go along and get involved. Donations of tools and equipment suitable for use at the group would be g ratefully received. For details call Mr McNeill on 01241 853091.
