V&A takes trip toAngus
THE V&A visited Angus for Easter as its first national touring exhibition rolled into the House of Dun.
Design in Motion is V&A Dundee’s roving exhibition in collaboration with the Travelling Gallery, and is presented in a custom-built gallery on a bus.
It is on a 17-week ‘mission’ across Scotland aimed at inspiring people through the best of design.
Its arrival in the Georgian National Trust for Scotland property afforded visitors of all ages the bonus of viewing the impressive mobile exhibition.
John McKenna, property manager at House of Dun, said: “We are honoured to host this amazing touring exhibition on its journey across Scotland.
“The House of Dun is home to its own fantastic art collection, so it’s fitting to have Scotland’s newest cultural destination roll into the grounds.”
The ground-breaking exhibition includes work by leading fashion designer Holly Fulton, Bafta award-winning game designer Sophia George, and innovative product designer and artist Geoffrey Mann.
All seven featured designers use digital technologies to push the boundaries of their discipline, demonstrating how design can be put to work to reconstruct heritage, visualise the unseen, and create products not previously possible.
The tour visits more than 70 venues across Scotland.
Future locations include Glasgow and Aberdeen, as well as rural sites across the Highlands and Islands, Lewis, Harris and Skye.
Venues range from secondary schools and art colleges to museums, community centres and libraries.
The final stop will be the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, in June.
More than 4,500 people have seen the exhibition since it left Dundee on February 27, and it is anticipated more than 10,000 people will visit it in total.
Philip Long, director of V&A Dundee, said: “The exhibition is just a snapshot of the creative riches that V&A Dundee will showcase, allowing us to get out and talk to our audiences and build real excitement towards opening in 2018.”
Jim Clarkson, VisitScotland regional partnerships director, said: “As one of the most stunningly beautiful country homes in Scotland, House of Dun near Montrose is just one of the many iconic places inAngus that stands to benefit following the arrival of the V&A.” drhind@thecourier.co.uk
