AT FORFAR: Roy Rankin, 31, of Southesk Terrace, Brechin, admitted that on August 16 on Montrose Street, Brechin, he assaulted a man by punching him on the head, to his injury.

Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the assault was unprovoked.

Rankin’s victim was struck on the back of the head, which caused him to stumble and fall against a wall.

Sheriff Kevin Veal sentenced Rankin to three months in jail.

Adam Horce SmithHunts­man, 31, of Bailie Wilson Way, Montrose, admitted that on March 16 at Scotmid on Newmanswal­ls Avenue, Montrose, he stole a quantity of toiletries while on bail.

Sheriff Veal deferred sentence until May 5 for a criminal justice social work report.

Gavin William Stewart, 28, of Gallowshad­e Road, Forfar, admitted that on March 8 at his home address he behaved in a manner likely to cause fear or alarm by shouting and swearing and throwing a remote control at a television.

He also admitted punching a woman on the body.

Joan Christine Caroline Taylor, 41, of Strathmore Avenue, Forfar, admitted that on May 9, at her home address, she possessed amphetamin­e and cannabis.
