Sir Roger Moore has raised a vodka martini to Dundee film fans ahead of a return to the city’s big screen.

The 88-year-old actor – who played the role of James Bond in seven films – was delighted to hear that he is so popular in the city.

Sir Roger’s 1974 Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun will be shown at Dundee Museum of Transport in Market Mews on Friday August 12.

The screening is part of the Blue Skies festival, which is a cultural celebration of creativity, led by Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA).

Sir Roger’s 007 will be returning to the big screen in the city for the first time since Moonraker was shown at DCA in 2013 to mark the 40th anniversary of his first appearance as Ian Fleming’s fictional spy.

The special showing of the 1979 film was dubbed Sir Roger Moore Day and saw fans flocking to the DCA from as far as the Highlands to celebrate the legendary actor’s Bond legacy.

Ahead of the August 12 event, Sir Roger told The Courier: “I’d like to send my best wishes for the screening.

“The people of Dundee obviously have great taste!”

It is hoped next month’s screening will attract similar interest with Bond fans being given a chance to explore Dundee Museum of Transport before the projector rolls.

Alice Black, head of cinema, said: “We are absolutely delighted to hear that Sir Roger Moore is backing this very special screening for Blue Skies 2016.

“We hope the people of Dundee will be out in force to celebrate one of the most entertaining Bond films in the unique setting of Dundee Museum of Transport, surrounded by classic cars.”

The Man with the Golden Gun was Sir Roger’s second outing as James Bond and sees him take on Christopher Lee’s Scaramanga who kills with golden bullets at £1 million a hit.

The movie is famous for Bond’s duel with Scaramanga and the high-energy car chase through Bangkok that climaxes with a breathtaking mid-air 360-degree corkscrew jump.

Beth Bate, director of DCA, said: “Blue Skies brings together cultural and community organisations for four days of inspiring activities, celebrating the fantastic creativity of Dundee.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming audiences for another wonderful programme this year, with everything from cloud spotting to stargazing, and of course, Sir Roger Moore on the big screen.”
