Sir Roger’s mission to entertain

-

Sir Roger Moore had to cut his hair and lose weight for the role of James Bond.

Following TV success in The Saint and The Persuaders, Sir Roger’s first outing as Ian Fleming’s spy was in 1973’s Live and Let Die.

He went on to star in another six Bond films – bowing out after A View to a Kill in 1985 at the age of 57.

Other film highlights during his career included The Wild Geese, Escape to Athena and North Sea Hijack.

He was made a CBE in 1998 for services to UNICEF before he received a knighthood in 2003.

Sir Roger remains the longest-serving James Bond actor, having spent 12 years in the role.

His version of Bond was also known for his sense of humour and witty one-liners.
