Higgins has no answer for Carter
Ali Carter reached his first ranking event semi-final in more than two years with a 5-0 whitewash over John Higgins at the 2016 World Open in Yushan.
Breaks of 101, 51 and 98 put the 37-year-old, who has dropped to 31 in the world rankings, 3-0 in the lead against the Scot, who struggled with consistency.
Carter cleared from brown to black before potting a respotted black to extend his lead with Higgins failing to threaten in the final frame.
The Englishman will face Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the last four today after his 5-2 victory over another Scot, Anthony McGill.
Defending champion Shaun Murphy was knocked out by 41-year-old Joe Perry.
Murphy won the first two frames before a confident Perry won five in a row.
Perry will face Australian Neil Robertson who beat David Gilbert 5-2.
