Thieves steal 150 lobsters

-

Thieves have stolen 150 lobsters in an early morning raid at Methil docks.

The creatures, thought to be worth around £1,300 were taken from a container, which was partly in the water, some time between 1am and 5am on Monday.

The audacious theft has been condemned by Levenmouth councillor Tom Adams, who said the crustaceans were probably the result of a week’s work by the fisherman.

“This is a big deal for him as he will have worked hard for that in all sorts of weather,” he said.

“There are a lot of creels in the Forth and a lot of the lobsters get taken abroad.

“No doubt they’ll be getting enjoyed on somebody’s dinner table this weekend.”

Sergeant Craig Fyall called for anybody with information to get in touch.

“This might seem like a comical incident but this is a fisherman’s livelihood and he believes the lobsters to be worth around £1,300,” he said.

“It’s likely the fish were handpicked from the container so it would have been noticeable if anyone left the docks with that amount of fish.

“If anyone remembers seeing anything suspicious or has any relevant information please contact police.”

Police can be contacted on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
