June 27: England exit Euro 2016 at the last 16 stage after a shock 2-1 defeat by Iceland in Nice. Roy Hodgson announces his immediate departure.

June 28: Captain Wayne Rooney vows to be part of a bright England future, despite describing his side’s Euro 2016 defeat to Iceland as “embarrassi­ng.”

Hodgson makes a reluctant final appearance in front of the media, and warns his successor that Euro 2016 humiliatio­n could “damage” the players he leaves behind.

July 1: Outgoing Football Associatio­n chairman Greg Dyke apologises for England’s performanc­e at Euro 2016.

July 13: Sunderland announce the FA have approached them for permission to speak to their manager Sam Allardyce about the England job and, at Allardyce’s request, they have granted permission. Hull boss Steve Bruce and Bournemout­h’s Eddie Howe are also reportedly on the FA shortlist.

July 22: The FA announce Allardyce has been appointed as England’s new manager, signing an initial two-year contract. “I will do everything I can to help England do well and give our nation the success our fans deserve.,” the new national team boss said.

August 28: Allardyce names his first England squad ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

September 4: England start their 2018 World Cup qualfying campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 away win over 10-man Slovakia with a stoppage-time goal from Adam Lallana.

September 26: The Football Associatio­n confirms it is awaiting further informatio­n after allegation­s are made against manager Allardyce by a national newspaper. Allardyce is secretly filmed offering advice on how to avoid third party ownership rules.
