Return planned for Thrums Up

-

Kirriemuir branch of the Saltire Society has planned a winter programme to promote the talents of local artists.

The line-up will cover a variety of aspects of Scottish life, including another Thrums Up exhibition, following on from the successful event in May and again showcasing a wide variety of artists and food producers.

The first evening of the new season yesterday saw a presentation by Maureen Crosbie on the design and creation of stained glass.

On Wednesday October 12 there is an evening devoted to cycling.

This will feature a film called Dummy Jim. This centres on a deaf cyclist who toured Europe and went as far as the Arctic Circle in 1951.

There will also be a talk about the Flying Scot, a Scottish cycle brand.

The role of the Black Watch in the first world war will be outlined by Kirriemuir councillor Major Ronnie Proctor on Wednesday November 9.

The Thrums Up exhibition is scheduled to take place in Kirrie Parish Church Hall from December 9 to 11.

Further society events will also take place in the New Year, including a Burns lunch, a lecture about the V&A in Dundee and a visit to the site.

All evening events are in the Kirriemuir Parish Church hall at 7.30pm. Membership costs £30 for the season of seven events, or £5 per event.
