Tributes to A90 victim

55-year-old Charles Kelly was hit by a lorry on busy dual carriageway

Tributes have been paid by neighbours to a Montrose man killed while walking on the A90 near Dundee.

Charles Kelly died when he was hit by a lorry near Petterden earlier this week.

The 55-year-old was described as “a very good neighbour” and a “nice man” by those who lived around him on Thomson Terrace.

His family remained too upset to speak publicly about his death.

Police confirmed they are still investigating the incident and again appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Mr Kelly died at around 3pm on Wednesday on the busy dual carriageway.

It was shut for several hours while police carried out investigation work.

The man who was killed in a road accident outside Dundee on Wednesday has been named by police.

Charles Kelly, 55, from Montrose suffered fatal injuries after he was struck by a lorry on the A90 near Petterden.

Mr Kelly was not in a vehicle when he was hit by the lorry on the northbound carriageway.

Police are still investigating the accident, which occurred around 3pm and led to the busy dual carriageway being closed for several hours.

Mr Kelly lived in a two-storey semidetached house in Thomson Terrace.

His family were too upset to speak yesterday.

Neighbour Jackie Wilkie said: “That’s a shock. I often speak over the garden fence with his partner. They’ve lived here for about eight years.

“Charlie would often be out and about walking their three dogs.

“He was a very good neighbour. My thoughts are with the family.”

Montrose councillor Bill Duff said: “This is obviously a tragedy and my thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who tragically lost his life.”

The accident caused the northbound carriageway of the A90 to be closed from Powrie Brae, leading to massive tailbacks stretching back on to the Kingsway in Dundee.

The A90 was closed to allow officers to work at the scene and inquiries to take place into the full circumstances of the incident.

A police spokesman said: “Inquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are ongoing and Tayside Division would appeal for anyone who may have information that could assist officers with their inquiries to contact Tayside Division on 101. As with all sudden deaths a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
