Fishstone find

The stone pictured below was found on the foreshore at Arbroath, near the golf course and approximately where Wm. Briggs’ Dowrie works was located.

“The 50p piece is to give an indication of scale,” says the reader who found the stone. “The fish shape way well be natural, but the hole neatly drilled through it is clearly not.

“There are nearby numerous other stones, of various sizes, which also have holes drilled into or through them.

“Can any Craigie reader solve the riddle of the drilled stones?
