Guidance from Maw

Two new Oor Wullie and The Broons books are to go on sale next month, offering insight into Scottish life and language.

Maw Broon’s Guide To Life offers advice from the family matriarch. Oor Wullie’s book provides translations to words and phrases used in the comic strips.

The books, by Black & White Publishing, will appear on shelves from November 3.

Translations in the Oor Wullie book include:

A wee keek – A quick glance.

Gie them a dicht – Wipe them. Jings – My goodness. Help ma Boab – good grief.

Chickanelly – Game where you ring a doorbell and run away.

Scunner – Great annoyance.
