Miniature armies being readied for battle in Targe 2016

-

Kirriemuir’s annual wargaming convention is another sell-out as it prepares to return next month.

Organised by Kirriemuir Wargames Club, TARGE 2016 will take place at Webster’s High School on Saturday November 12.

This year’s event will be opened by Lord Lyell, who has also agreed to present the prizes including a trophy he has donated.

Chairman Dale Smith said: “Most folk know that miniature wargaming is a very popular hobby enjoyed by all ages and involves using tiny figures to represent the various regiments, battalions or factions.

“To be clear, wargamers are not warmongers, they are simply playing a game in the same way that folk might play chess, Risk or a computer game. The event has gone from strength to strength in the last 10 years with 20 clubs participating and all of the trading places booked up well in advance.

“Such is the success of the show that there are healthy waiting lists for both clubs and traders who are all keen to display or show their wares at TARGE.

“Squeezing everyone in but still maintaining comfortable access is a perennial organiser’s problem for a show as large as this.”

People come from all over Scotland and the north of England to the event, which will run from 10am to 4pm.

The painting and modelling competitions are open to the public, with senior and junior sections.

The trophy donated by Lord Lyell will be contested internally within the club but all other competitions are open, with more than £800 worth of prizes on offer.
