Dundee Stars failed to record back-toback victories over Braehead Clan over the weekend but produced another encouraging display last night at Dundee Ice Arena.

Stars had won 3-0 in the Elite League on Saturday night in Glasgow and bounced back from 4-1 down to claim a point in their Challenge Cup clash rematch against Braehead.

The teams exchanged goals from Matt Keith and Felix-Antoine Poulin in the first period, but a quickfire burst of three goals from Cody Carlson, Scott Pitt and Mike Hammond put the west coast visitors 4-1 up before the fifth minute of the second period.

Stars’ new signing Kevin Bruijsten cut the deficit to two before the second break, and Vinny Scarsella and captain Joey Sides completed a dramatic comeback for Marc Lefebvre’s side in the final period.

Neither side was able to find a winner in overtime, so the game went to a shootout.

Goals proved hard to come by with Jay Rosehill’s 10th round strike proving decisive after Sides failed to beat Clan goaltender Gary Russell with the following shot.

The Stars had cruised to an impressive victory on Saturday night.

Kevin Hart gave them a first period lead and Brett Switzer added a second on a powerplay before the second break.

Veteran netminder Joe Fallon kept Clan at bay and Poulin completed the scoring after Scarsella and Bruijsten combined to feed the defenceman.

Fife Flyers had another frustrarting weekend, losing twice in the Elite League to Sheffield Steelers.

The Fife side were beaten 4-1 in England on Saturday night and returned home to their Rosslyn Street rink last night to lose 4-2.

Brendan Brooks gave Flyers a first period lead in Saturday’s game but strikes by Levi Neilson, Robert Dowd, Tyler Mosienko and Guillaume Desbiens sealed the victory for the hosts.

Flyers found themselves 2-0 down at the of last night’s opening period, John Armstrong netting twice for the visitors.

Steelers moved 3-0 ahead as Jesse Schultz found a way through and David Phillips made it four just three minutes later.

Matt Sisca got Fife on the scoreboard on a power play with four minutes left of the second period and David Turon raised hopes of a comeback with a second midway through the final period. Steelers held on though, to complete a four-point weekend.
