Alloa topple Strathmore away

-

Alloa moved up to third place in BT Caledonia Division One after coming from behind to post a 25-13 win over Strathmore.

The Inchmacoble side raced from the blocks with two tries and a penalty before Alloa battled back to trail only 13-12 at half-time.

Two penalties handed the visitors the lead and they clinched the win when Ali Edwards crashed over for a late converted try.

Alloa’s next opponents will be Caithness, who were 43-29 winners over Glenrothes.

Carnoustie moved out of the bottom two with a 31-21 win at Mackie Academy that sees them leapfrog Harris in the table.

Harris welcomed Dunfermline, and tries by Fraser Cowe and Adam Fraser, both converted by Calum Allardice, gave the Fifers a 14-7 lead at the break – Scott Smart dotting down for the hosts and Stewart Walker converting.

Harris had the better of the second half and cut the deficit to two points with an unconverted touchdown from Joe Abbott.

However, the visitors clinched the win with an interception score from Harvey Gardiner.

Division Two (Midlands) leaders Grangemouth Stags turned on the style to chalk up a comfortable 80-17 win in the top versus bottom clash with Kirkcaldy seconds.

Stewart Allan bagged three of the 12 Stags’ tries with the others shared by nine players, while Duncan Fisher landed 10 conversions.

Falkirk seconds ran Stags close in the scoring stakes, seeing off Kinross 79-31. There were also points aplenty at the Braidhaugh, where Crieff and Strathearn posted a 48-26 success over Howe of Fife seconds to sit third in the table, just behind Hillfoots, who were 33-6 winners away to Morgan Academy.

The day’s other game was an entertaining affair at Broughty Ferry which saw Blairgowrie and Panmure share the spoils in a 24-24 draw.

Waid Academy and Dundee University Medics continue to battle it out at the top of Division Three Midlands (North), with the Anstruther men still leading the way following a 29-12 win at home to Arbroath, while the students are two points adrift with a game in hand after beating Madras 38-24.
