Former winners Port exit Scottish

Canniepairt side crash out – but Lochee and the Fed make third round

- Mark johnson

Three-times Scottish Cup winners Tayport lost 2-0 for the second game in a row, but this time it meant an exit from this season’s premier cup competition.

Centre-half Peter McMahon put Blantyre Vics in front after just two minutes of the Scottish Cup second round clash when he bundled the ball home from a corner.

Kieran Coleman doubled the advantage early in the second half when he rose above the Tayport defence to power a header past Gavin Sorley.

Tayport had an opportunity to get back into the game on 72 minutes after Alan Tulleth was brought down in the penalty area but Jamie Mackie saw his spot-kick saved by the Blantyre keeper.

Lochee United had a rather easier afternoon than they had against Hurlford United in the last round as they triumphed 6-0 at Aberdeen East End.

Bryan Deasley put the Dundee side in front from the spot after 23 minutes and that was it until half-time.

The Super League side’s class began to show after the break and Reece Ritchie made it 2-0 10 minutes into the second half.

Kris Rollo made it 3-0 on 65 minutes before Scott McComiskie made it four two minutes later.

McComiskie grabbed his second and Lochee’s fifth on 75 minutes before it ended as it had begun with a Deasley goal to make it 6-0 to the visitors.

Injury-hit Broughty Athletic managed to return home from Johnstone Burgh in the hat for the next round after a late penalty saw them nick the win.

Danny Cavanagh had put the Fed in front on 17 minutes but a hard-working Burgh side got a deserved equaliser on 72 minutes.

Broughty then won the game when Ross McCord was fouled in the box and, despite vehement protests, the referee pointed to the spot. Jamie McCunnie made no mistake to take his side through.

Result of the day probably goes to Andy Heggie’s Dundee North End who were emphatic 5-0 winners over Wishaw at North End Park.

Dayle Robertson and Gary Sutherland scored a pair apiece, with Willie Johnston grabbing the fifth.

Charlie King’s Brechin Vics started well against runaway Premier League leaders Sauchie at Victoria Park.

Vics took a deserved lead on 19 minutes but by half-time Sauchie had the game in the bag.

Darren Cummings equalised on 32 minutes before Ian Diack put the visitors in front just two minutes later.

Cummings then made it 3-0 right on half-time from the penalty spot. The Sauchie man completed his hat-trick midway through the second half, once more from the spot, as his side ran out comfortable winners.

Supporters witnessed plenty of goals at Beechwood Park – unfortunately for Lochee Harp they threw away a 3-1 lead to eventually lose 5-3 to Maryhill.

A Derryn Kesson double and a goal from Ryan McKillen saw the Dundee side lead but an impressive fightback from the Glasgow outfit saw them take their place in the third round

Kirrie Thistle made quick work of Ayrshire side Whitletts Victoria at Westview Park.
