A woman has been charged in connection with the death of a 39-year-old dad in the Muirton area of Perth.

Officers along with the Scottish Ambulance Service were alerted to an incident in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The man, who police last night named as taxi driver Douglas Anderson, was pronounced dead a short time later.

The woman, who is 36 and local, is expected to appear at Perth Sheriff Court today.

Mr Anderson’s family were too upset to comment and have requested that their privacy is respected.

Detective Inspector Gary Winter said: “I would like to thank the local community for their patience while extensive inquiries have been carried out in the area, and for all information provided to police.”

Neighbours of Mr Anderson have claimed he was stabbed.

Tributes have poured in for Mr Anderson, who worked for Perth Radio Taxis, after his body was found in Dunnock Park.

A large police presence, including a command unit, remained on the street yesterday, with officers carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

On Saturday six police vehicles were stationed at the scene, with a large grassy area cordoned off.

One neighbour said: “Officers came to my door around 4am on Saturday and there were loads of police cars here – it was pandemonium.

“Obviously, something awful happened.”

Meanwhile, a man who lives across the street from the incident said: “I woke up on Saturday morning to look out of my front window and was met with the sight of loads of police vehicles.

“This is normally a quiet area so I was shocked to see all the police standing guard and the area taped off.”

Many neighbours and friends of Mr Anderson posted tributes to him on social media.

Kenny Keir wrote on Facebook: “RIP my pal.”

Samantha McGilligan said: “RIP – another life taken too soon.

“Thinking of your friends and family at this sad time.”

Perth Radio Taxis did not wish to comment on the incident.
