Cowardly police ‘slowed down’ to avoid facing gunman
Cowardly local police units allowed Seifeddine Rezgui to carry out his mass slaughter unchallenged for as long as 40 minutes because they were too scared to face him.
The Tunisian investigation into the Sousse attack found that tourist security units “deliberately and unjustifiably slowed down to delay their arrival” at five-star Riu Imperial Marhaba Hotel.
The inquest into the deaths of Rezgui’s 30 British victims at the Royal Courts of Justice also heard from the hotel’s general manager, Mahraz Saadi, about how the killer was allowed to stalk the beach and grounds unmolested, armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and hand grenades.
Rezgui was eventually shot dead by police in a street close to the hotel on the Mediterranean coast after covering an estimated 1.8 miles on foot between the start and finish of his attack.
A summary of a report prepared for the Tunisian Government by Judge Akremi, read to the London inquest, said it examined cameras which “showed that the tourist security team vehicle patrol and bike patrol deliberately slowed down and did not intervene to stop the terrorist attack at that time”.
