Organisers of Dundee’s newest music festival have said the response has been “phenomenal”.

General sale tickets for the Carnival 56 festival went on sale to the public yesterday morning after 2,000 pre-registration briefs sold out in half an hour on Friday.

The two-day festival will take place at Camperdown Park in August, with a number of local and international acts booked to perform.

Festival director Craig Blyth said: “We had a phenomenal response to the pre-registration sale on Friday, with 2,000 tickets sold in the first 30 minutes.

“General sale tickets went on today and we’re delighted with the response so far.

“There is a massive buzz about Carnival 56 across the city, and further afield, and we are well ahead of our projections.

“With us heading into pay weekend, we expect the high demand to continue.

“As a ratio of total tickets sold so far, we have seen a fair uptake in payment plan transactions.

“The weight of ticket sales has been through outright purchases, as expected – however, feedback so far about the payment plan scheme has been very positive and we think it is a good thing to offer customers.”

He continued: “There is a lot of excitement about this week’s launch party and ticket sales have been great for this too.

“It’s shaping up to be a fantastic night showcasing the best in local talent.

“We are looking forward to giving people a teaser of what’s to come in August.

“Another special guest has still to be announced for Carnival 56, along with this year’s comedy line up and other surprise festival fun entertainment.”

Acts Rudimental and Mark Ronson have been announced as headline performers for the weekend, with electronic music bands Basement Jaxx and Hot Chip set to play DJ sets.

Dundee craft-lager company 71 Brewing has been announced as the headline sponsor of the event, and local bands The Mirror Trap, Fat Goth and Sinderins will also perform.
