Confidence is high as The Dons march on

Keeper Joe Lewis sees no reason why run will not continue

- ROSS ALEXANDER

Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis claims there is no danger of complacency creeping in if they maintain their recent levels of effort and energy.

The Dons have won 10 of their last 11 games - a 1-0 defeat at Celtic Park their only blip – in a run which has seen them move nine points clear of Rangers in second place in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

They can extend the gap even further, for 24 hours at least, when they face Hamilton in Lanarkshire tonight and Lewis believes they will adopt the right approach.

“I don’t think there’s a danger of complacency in our squad,” said Lewis, who has kept six clean sheets in nine matches.

“We take it game by game. The work-rate that we put in this season, and especially recently, and the energy we have got in the team, is fantastic.

“We will look to continue doing that at the start of the game, look to play with intensity and a high tempo, as we do every game.

“At the moment it is working, we are approaching games well and getting the right results.

“It’s easy to say ‘just do the same’ but we need to make sure we apply ourselves the same, prepare right, and I’m sure we will.”

run come to an end on their last midweek visit to the SuperSeal Stadium in October, when they lost to Alex D’Acol’s controversial early penalty.

Lewis said: “It was probably one of our poorest performances and we will be looking to put that right and the way we are playing at the moment, we can be confident to do that.

“The performance last time wasn’t good enough. Credit to Hamilton, they came out and put us under pressure and worked extremely hard.

“I expect they will look to come out and get at us again. We need to be prepared for that.”

Meanwhile, Hamilton Boss Martin Canning does not read too much into the club’s drop to the bottom of the Premiership but accepts the urgent need for wins.

Inverness’s win over Rangers on Friday night meant Accies went into the game against runaway leaders Celtic the following day propping up the table for the first time this season.

The 2-0 defeat at Parkhead left the Lanarkshire side one point behind Caley Thistle and three behind ninth-placed Ross County.

Canning said: “I am not trying to cover over anything. We are bottom because we have not won enough games, as simple as that.”

Looking to tonight’s clash, he added: “We have beaten them this season and that goes to show how tight it is.

“If we win tomorrow night before the other teams play we could be a few places up the league so it is still all to play for definitely.

“We know it is a difficult task, they have a lot of attacking threat but we have beaten them before and so you have to believe that we can do it again.”
