Carlogie’s changeable conditions no deterrent

CARLOGIE DAM has been fishing well with a mixture of flies successful.

The changeable weather has not been putting the fish or the anglers off.

Recent catch and returns include: Bruce Thomson (Arbroath) 13, A Twaddle (Arbroath) 10, Frank Ferrier (Arbroath) 13, George Woods (Montrose) 16, Jock Leslie (Forfar) 10, A Wood (Arbroath) 19, Tim Hale (Forfar) seven, Sandy McAllan (Arbroath) 14, Aaron Phillip (Forfar) 12, P Stewart (Arbroath) 20, one of which was a 14lb rainbow; Ian Middleton (Carnoustie) eight.

B Bosch (Carnoustie) caught and kept three fish for 6lb, D Linton caught 12 fish and kept two for 6lb, G McAllan (Arbroath) caught and kept three for 7lb.

NEWTON FARM has seen a steady week despite the changeable weather.

Size 12 various black buzzers have been doing best with wotsits and bugs under the bung also scoring well.

Top rods: Craig McIntosh releasing 10, including one at 10lb, and Chris Mulholland also with 10 fish on size 14 buzzers. Mr McGouldric­k was best of the week, weighing in four fish for a huge 21lb 4oz.

Opening day at MONIKIE and CROMBIE is March 15.

There are signs that spring is on the way at FORBES OF

KINGENNIE but afternoon sessions still finish at 5pm.

Several fish from various ponds were caught on dry flies.

The Boathouse Pool has good water clarity now and is fishing well with the most favoured method the bung with buzzers fished beneath it.

Millennium bug and various bloodworm patterns have also had success.

Scott Pozzi returned a superb rainbow estimated at 11lb, taken on a cat’s whisker.

Mr Lawson took two fish for 7lb and returned a further five. Most fell to black buzzers.

On the deeper Burnside Pool, John Brown returned a rainbow of 11lb taken on a pink blob. Joe Westland returned three excellent fish around the 9-10lb mark and Ian Barlow returned 10 on buzzers.

Most taken on Bankside were caught by fishing deeper than normal, with small cormorants and diawl bachs prominent.

Mr Donaldson took a rainbow and a blue trout for a total of 6lb and returned three.

The best fish at the Woodside Pool have again fallen to power-bait. Spinning with a small bladed spinner has also produced positive results.

Mr Campbell and Mr Brown took four for 8lb and the Clarks had three for 8lb.
