Dods says draw was ‘fair outcome’

QUEEN’S PARK 1 BRECHIN CITY 1

Brechin City boss Darren Dods was happy to come away with a point after a 1-1 draw with Queen’s Park at Hampden Park.

He had been sure his team were heading for victory after Andy Jackson fired them into the lead with just six minutes of the match remaining.

However, Ryan McGeever powered home a header in the dying seconds to salvage a deserved share of the spoils for the Spiders.

“When Jacko slotted the ball home so late in the match I honestly thought that we would go on to win,” said Dods.

“However, Queen’s came back strongly to equalise and although the players feel gutted to lose a goal at the last gasp, on balance, I think a draw was probably a fair outcome.

“It took us a wee while to get going today and I think that last Tuesday night’s very late kick-off against Airdrie, when we didn’t get finished until just before 11pm, definitely had an impact,” he said.

“Some players were starting work at 7.30am the following morning and that certainly had an effect on the way we started, but we were much better in the second-half.”

“We managed to push forward a lot more after the break, but Queen’s Park are a really good side and we also had to defend really well.

“Not too many teams win here, so I suppose a draw at the end of the day is a good result.”

“We’re on a decent run at the moment – having taken 10 points from a possible 12 – and, with the majority of our remaining matches at home, we have to ensure we take maximum advantage and finish the campaign in as strong a position as we possibly can.

“Alloa visit Glebe Park this coming Tuesday night, followed by East Fife on Saturday, so we have to endeavour to take full points from both of those games to keep the momentum going,” he added.
