KIRRIEMUIR: Eric Summers gave a talk entitled Eagle, the Golden Years to Kirriemuir Probus Club.

He described how Marcus Morris, a Lancashire vicar, while impressed by the quality of American comics, deplored their content and decided to produce a British boys’ comic of similar quality, but with stories which were educationa­l. With Frank Hampson as illustrato­r, the Eagle appeared in 1951. Bill Boyle proposed thanks. The next meeting is on April 5, when Neil Werninck will talk on Montrose Air Station Museum.

WHIST: The results of last week’s whist drive in Northmuir Hall, Kirriemuir were: 1 Ms Linda Caston; 2 Mrs Lesley Young; 3 Mr Jim Lawson; booby prize – Dave Donnelly.

The next whist drive at the Northmuir Hall will be held on Wednesday March 29.

SHOW: Angus Federation SWRI celebrates its centenary this year and is holding its competitiv­e exhibition this weekend.

Exhibition­s will take place at the Strathmore Hall, 48 Don Street, Forfar, on Friday between 1 and 6pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.

Prizes will be presented at 4pm. Entry is £2 and there will be a raffle and refreshmen­ts.

CONCERT: Fern, Careston and Menmuir Church is holding a concert in Menmuir Hall on Friday at 7pm, with music by Lochnagar.

There will also be a general knowledge quiz and whisky trail as part of the entertainm­ent.

Entry is £7, children free, bring your own bottle. Tea and coffee provided along with a light buffet.

RELAY: Arbroath Relay for Life is holding its first team meeting tomorrow at 7pm at Community Spirit, Fisheracre.

The meeting is a chance to discuss fundraisin­g plans for 2017 and hear a presentati­on by guest speaker Fiona Harvey, senior local fundraisin­g manager with Cancer Research UK.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in joining this year’s event as well as for team members who are already registered.
