‘Home’ debut would be fitting for Bairn

-

Luca Gasparotto admits it would be fitting if he won his first Canada cap in tonight’s clash with Scotland.

The Falkirk defender hopes to make his international debut in the Easter Road friendly.

The 22-year-old former Rangers youngster had to quit Ibrox last year as he went in search of first-team action.

But he reckons he is now ready to make the step up to his national team when they take on the country he now calls home.

Gasparotto said: “Hopefully I should get on the pitch at some point, whether it be from the start or off the bench, and make my full debut.

“I’ve been waiting for it to come for a couple of years now but it would be pretty fitting if I was to make my debut here.

“It would be extra special to do it in Scotland because it’s my adopted home now.

“I think I’m ready for international football. I’ve been playing at first-team level for a few years and been involved with the national team five or six times.

“It’s good to get away with them and I think I become a better player each time I meet up just by getting to train alongside experienced players, guys who are playing down south and in countries like Germany.

“I left Rangers last summer and that wasn’t too hard to be honest. At my age, I just want to play and in all honesty it was going to be tough for me to make the breakthrough at Rangers.

“I played well last year on loan at Morton and when the opportunity to join Falkirk in the summer came up it was pretty much a no brainer to make the move. They had a great season last year and are still a big club.

“It would be good to help the team get promotion in the same year that I win my first international cap. It would be a big moment for me in my career.

“I’ve been dreaming about winning my first cap since I was young.”
