Let young choose future

-

Sir, - As a senior citizen myself, I would like to appeal to my fellow senior citizens who voted No at the last referendum.

Most voted No because they were in fear of losing their pensions. Scaremongering was rife and I have no doubt it will be again when the next one comes around.

Polls show the majority of those who will be voting Yes fall into the 16 to 40 years range.

Senior citizens should consider this. If our younger generation wants to run the country for themselves and the future of their children, why should we want to stand in their way?

Hasn’t our generation had a go and what have we handed on to them? We must admit, our legacy is not great.

So why deny them the opportunity to try to make our country great just because we’re a wee bit afraid we might lose out on our pensions?

My granddaughter is coming up for 16, and will be voting Yes. She wants to go to university, get a degree and work for the betterment of Scotland. She does not want to be forced to go abroad to get better work but it seems she would if we are still under Westminster rule with its right-wing austerity policies and hard Brexit.

Hasn’t our generation had a go and what have we handed on to them? We must admit, our legacy is not great
