On-form Guest settles for silver

-

A second title in as many days may have evaded her grasp but Perth’s Charlie Guest couldn’t believe her luck after sealing another podium place at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships yesterday.

Having retained her women’s Slalom title on Thursday, the 23-year-old continued her fine form in the UVEX British National Championships Giant Slalom, winning bronze.

Setting a combined time of 2:02.53, Guest placed third behind fellow Scots Alex Tilley and Cara Brown in a competitive field.

And having not worn her giant slalom skis in some time, Guest admitted it was a result she never could have predicted.

“I’m so happy. It came as a big surprise. It was my first GS in two years so I didn’t expect anything,” she said.

“I’ve maybe trained it about 10 days over the last 24 months, so I can’t believe it, it’s crazy.

“I was absolutely terrified on the first run, because I’m not used to the speed, and I still made lots of mistakes but overall, I’m just happy to be back skiing the GS and the podium is a bonus.

“Alex is a world-class skier so to be up there with her shows that I’ve still got something in me.

“That’s me done for the week now and I’m heading to Italy for some more races, I need to get some more Slalom points for the season so I have to focus.”
