Stirling see off Madras in Division Three play-off final
Stirling County thirds struck form to see off a strong Madras side in the final of the BT Caledonia Division Three (Midlands) play-off final at Kinross.
The Bridgehaugh men, who had topped the south division during the regular season, eventually emerged as 34-19 victors over the north division champions to lift the title and secure promotion to Division Two next season.
The play-off for third place was a tight affair between two evenly-matched sides in Dundee University Medics and Grangemouth Stags seconds, with the students squeezing home 19-17.
The action continued in BT Caledonia Division One, where Dunfermline rounded off their home fixtures for the season with a 43-7 win over Aberdeen Wanderers and will finish the league programme with a trip to face champions-elect Gordonians.
Elsewhere, Strathmore were impressive 62-5 winners at Carnoustie, a result which confirms that Carnoustie will play their rugby in division two next season.
Meanwhile, Glenrothes ended the campaign on a winning note, seeing off Mackie 74-0.
The result, built around a solid showing by the Fifers’ pack, yielded 12 tries, with Cammy Goodall the main contributor as he harvested a hat-trick, while Kain Duguid had a personal haul of 19 points through a try and seven conversions.
In Division two (Midlands), Blairgowrie maintained the fine form that has seen them reach the final of the national Bowl competition. They continued their preparations for the trip to BT Murrayfield on April 22 with a 45-17 win at home to basement side Kinross.
