Caledonian Marts Ltd sold 743 store cattle and 1,036 store hoggets and grit gimmers and ewes at their April show and sale. Overall champion was a Charolais bullock (480kg) from J& D Mitchell, Offers, Gargunnock, realising £1,100. Reserve champion was a Limousin heifer (345kg) from D& L Graham, Mains of Burnbank, Blairdrumm­ond, which made £830. Pen of four bullocks came from R McNee Ltd, Woodend, Armadale at 492kg, £1,100. Pen of four Heifers came from D& L Graham, Mains of Burnbank at 378kg, £920. Bullocks averaged 222ppkg selling to 268ppkg for a Simmental from Wester Whin, Slamannan, and to £1,300 twice for a Simmental from Bowhouse, Gartness, and for a Saler from Loanrigg, Slamannan. Heifers averaged 217ppkg selling to 260ppkg for a Limousin from Mid Ervie, Kirkcolm, and to £1,230 for a AA from Alton Muirhouse, Newmilns. Black and white bullocks averaged 152ppkg, selling to 195ppkg from Baldastard, Lundin Links, and to £1,170 from the same home. Overall sale average for 1,984 sold 158ppkg (-21.7p on the week) included in the sale was 986 Blackface hoggets averaging 147.5ppkg selling to £80 from Glenturret Estates.
