At LINTRATHEN LOCH the osprey has already been seen taking fish from the loch and the settled, mild weather forecast makes excellent conditions for getting out onto the loch this opening weekend.

The Jim Bowman Competition takes place on Sunday where there also some boats available for club members at £20 per rod.

A recent restocking of 1,500 fish has gone into the loch this past week, including rainbows and blues. To book a boat prior to opening day email gavferg@hotmail. com, or call the Bailiff or the boathouse on 01575 560327.

RESCOBIE LOCH.

Fishing has picked up over the last week after a slow start to the fishing season with fish now rising all over the loch.

A good number of over wintered fish are showing up in angler’s baskets.

The recent RLDA fishing competition saw 53 fish weighed in for 127lbs 8oz. The winner was Steve Cassels with a total of 17lbs 4oz, with Colin Nicoll second with a total of 16lbs 6oz.

Fish of the month for March winner is Frankie Keith with a brown trout weighing in at 6 lbs 8 oz.

Clubs fishing at the loch over the past fortnight include Balgay FFC (six fish for 19 lbs 15oz, Balbeggie (33 for 83lbs 12oz), Monifieth TAC (32 for 89lbs), Leslie and Glenrothes (21 rainbows for 65lbs), Browns 4 (four for 17lbs 10oz, Dundee Eastend (16 for 46lbs 3oz) and Stanley AC (25 for 63 lbs 12 oz).

NEWTON FARM FISHERY.

A busy week at Newton with some cracking morning and evening rises already. Fish are taking sub surface so buzzers fished high in the water are best tactics.

Barrys Angling Club weighed in 26 for 86lb which is a cracking return. Top rod with the club was Brian Dewar who landed 16 fish in six hours.

LEDYATT FISHERY

has seen some excellent sport this week and has been very busy. Roy Haxton caught a 10lb 2oz rainbow, and then his son Darren Haxton beat him with a 10lb 7oz fish.

Grant Burnett landed a 12lb 8oz brown trout on a dry fly and William Petrie had another fish of 8lb. Many anglers are bagging over 10 fish a session.

LAKE OF MENTEITH.

Some excellent catches mainly on the buzzer this week. The washing line when they were up and straight lining with a floater or even intermediate lines when there was no surface activity worked this week. Club results from the last few days include Dalzel AC landing 18 for 43lbs and returned 60 with six boats, Lochinch weighed in 29 for 62lbs and returned 26 with 67 boats, SANA youth returned 68 with seven boats and Townhill took 46 for 109lbs with eight boats.

ORCHILL LOCH.

The temperature this week has varied from zero to 21 degrees and now the fish, at times, are taking dries on the top as well as buzzers, the diawl bach and the usual lures.

Lucas Alonso-Spring, Auchterarder, used a green damsel to bag a fish of 6lbs 8oz, Hamish Carmichael, Alloa, had a brace for 6lbs on a Plumber.

DEN OF OGIL RESERVOIR

is now open for the season. The fishing is run by the Canmore Angling Club and visitor tickets and memberships are available.
