Moffat is keen to have ‘another go’ with Pars

-

Dunfermline striker Michael Moffat is out of contract at Allan Johnston’s side this summer but is keen to prolong his three-year stay with the Fife outfit.

Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hibs, Dunfermline are five points clear of Ayr United in the relegation play-off zone.

But Moffat, who has 20 goals in 91 league appearances, does not expect Johnston to begin contract talks until they confirm their place in the second tier.

Moffat said: “The quicker we can get ourselves safe, we can start concentrating on next season.

“I would love to stay. This is my third season and it would be great to have another go.”

Following an underwhelming start to the campaign, the Pars have only been beaten twice in 17 league matches.

Dunfermline are unlikely to catch-fourth place Dundee United, who are 11 points clear with only 18 to play for, but Moffat is confident they can mount a promotion charge next term.

He added: “The early part of the season has probably stopped us from getting into the play-offs because we’ve been one of the form teams recently.

“If we manage to keep the majority of the boys I think we could have a right good go next season, especially with Hibs not likely to be in it,” the striker added.

“Anyone could win the league, all the teams are similar so it would be great to be part of it again.”
