Four decades of success for club

-

Arbroath Chest Heart and Stroke Club celebrated its 40th anniversary with a dinner for 70 guests and members in the Meadowbank Inn.

The Arbroath branch is affiliated to Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS), one of Scotland’s largest health charities, with over 70 branches throughout Scotland, providing a wide range of services and support for people with a variety of conditions.

Dave Ramsay, the guest speaker at the event, said: “It was a privilege to be asked to speak at this important milestone in the history of the Arbroath branch of CHSS, and to be part of a celebration of the important part they play in supporting people and families with these conditions.

“We should not underestimate the importance of the service that these volunteers provide, with a range of social and leisure activities and outings along with the access to specialist information and professional medical support.

“At a time when the NHS is experiencing challenges in budgets and provision, it is critically important that these volunteers and this organisation receive all the support they can, from individuals and the community.”

The club, which has more than 50 members, meets every Thursday in Arbroath Bowling Club, Dishlandtown Street, and provides a wideranging programme.

President Angus Nairn said: “I was elected seven years ago, and have been delighted at the way the membership has grown.”

Mr Nairn can be contacted on 01241 872188.
