Chamber orchestra cathedral concert for Alzheimer Scotland

-

A classical charity concert is being staged later this month to support people with dementia and their families across Tayside.

The event, performed by the Dundee Chamber Orchestra, will take place at the city’s St Paul’s Cathedral on April 29 in aid of Alzheimer Scotland.

Conducted by Andy Evans and featuring soloist Miranda Evans, the musicians will perform works by Beethoven, Mozart, Sibelius and Ravel.

Having lost his mother to dementia in 2016, the concert is the inspiration of Mr Evans, who is also a Professor of Breast Imaging in Tayside.

Andy said: “Last year we staged a charity concert which went well with everyone enjoying the whole experience.

“This year, I decided I wanted to put on a concert for a cause closer to home and chose Alzheimer Scotland after losing my mother to dementia just last year.

“We’ve got an excellent concert planned with fantastic local musicians, so the night should be even better this year.”

Tickets for the concert are £12, £10 concessions and £5 for children, available to purchase online at www.alzscot.org/DCO and also on the night.

Andrea Watt, community fundraiser from Alzheimer Scotland, said: “We are thrilled that Andy, his family, and the Dundee Chamber Orchestra have chosen to stage this classical charity concert in aid of Alzheimer Scotland and we look forward to seeing the event sell out.

“All funds raised from will benefit our Alzheimer Scotland Dundee Resource Centre which provides people living with dementia, their families and carers access to information and advice about dementia.”
