Dundee’s biggest new talent competitio­n, the Ginger Jesus BoB (formerly the Doghouse/Buskers Battle of the Bands) starts tonight.

Over the next couple of months, more than 30 young bands will fight it out for the amazing prizes on offer, including a main stage slot at Carnival 56 Festival in Camperdown Park in August.

Also on offer for the winning act is a main stage slot at Westfest in Dundee and Gala Rocks in Coupar Angus, plus a mastered EP and 10 hours of free rehearsal time at Dundee Music Studios.

In addition, the six finalists will get airplay on Wave 102.

Tonight’s acts at Bar 15 are Millsyeck, Razor Sharp Dogs, True Romance, Captain Island, Sonorous, Nick Shane and Demi McMahon.

It’s an over-14s show with under-18s accompanie­d by an adult.

Advance tickets are £5, available from the bands and Groucho’s or it’s £6 on the door.

To celebrate the release of the new singles from Mt. Doubt and Foreignfox on a split 7in vinyl disc on Scottish Fiction Records, both bands are co-headlining Beat Generator Live! in Dundee tonight.

Hailed as a distinctiv­e new voice in Scottish music, with last year’s album In Awe of Nothing appearing on several end of year best albums lists, Edinburgh band Mt. Doubt are hitting 2017 fresh with new material.

Meanwhile Foreignfox have built up their reputation as one of Scotland’s most promising acts.

And capping off an excellent evening of music is SKJØR, who mix post-punk with pop melodies.

Dundee promoters Make That A Take are hosting an evening of live music tonight at Conroy’s Basement in Dundee to raise money for Dundee Refugee Support.

The city’s most enduring hardcore punks Kaddish return to their natural habitat as their third full-length album Scattered Islands of a Shattered Idea hits the pressing plant.

They’re joined by Irish/ Aberdeen punks Absolutist making their first trip to the Basement, along with homegrown stoner rockers Indica and Kirkcaldy’s Black Mirror.

Doors open at 7.30pm and entry is pay what you want (a fiver suggested), with all proceeds going to Dundee Refugee Support.

Cherry Bombz are at Klozet tonight from 10pm.

The pop punk group also play an unplugged set on Sunday at the Old Mason’s Arms in Forfar at 4pm.

Buck Rogers head to Arbroath tomorrow for a gig at the Pageant at 9.30pm.

It’s the weekly acoustic session tonight at Number 57 from 9pm.

Tomorrow Tripper play at 5.30pm before The Junkyard Dogs’ Sunday residency from 7pm.

McDaniels has Hustler tonight at 9.30pm then tomorrow it’s the Junkyard Dogs at 10pm.

Headway welcomes Jeremy Undergroun­d to the Reading Rooms tonight.

Book Club launches a new venture tomorrow, Book Club’s Local Heroes, which see the best residents from further afield joining Is Kill and Marc JD for a showcase of how they get down in neighbouri­ng cities.

First up is Gasoline Dance Machine residents Cheap Picasso, who have just moved from Cabaret Voltaire to the Mash House in Edinburgh.

Tickets are £8 from www. residentad­visor.net and gates open at 10pm. Ethos celebrates its first birthday at this week’s Rooms Thursdays.

Entry is £3.50 before midnight, £5 after.

Hip-hop/rock band Crazy Town are at Redd Suite on Tuesday, coming from Los Angeles for their only Scottish show.

Support comes from Supa & Da Kryptonite­s, Rage Against Timmy Mallet and Meraki.

On Wednesday it’s Kilmarnock alt rockers Twin Heart with support from Hopes Up High, The Ground We Tread, Ride the Tides and the Kalaharis.

Doors for both open at 7pm and tickets are available from Groucho’s.

The Bank Bar has Headroom tonight from 9.30pm.

Tomorrow it’s Trip at the same time.

Songwriter­s’ Sunday is hosted by Gavin McGinty at 8pm.

Dave Webster’s open mic is on Wednesday at 8.30pm.

Tripper play the sounds of the 60s through to the present day tonight at Clark’s.

Tomorrow there’s rock and pop gems from the DBs.

Both start at 9.30pm with free entry before midnight.

Thursday’s Pre-Production features Will Kaufman’s Woody Guthrie Story.

The “live documentar­y” sets the songs of Woody Guthrie in the context of 1930s America, highlighti­ng the blending of music and radical politics that marks Guthrie’s most powerful work.
