Tourism concerns to be raised

-

Concerns have been raised that work on the Aberdeen bypass could impact Stonehaven’s tourism.

Stonehaven and District Community Council fears an intense programme of works over a 40-week period will deter people from visiting the town.

The group has asked bypass bosses to attend its meeting tonight in a bid to address the issues.

Community council chairman Phil Mills-Bishop said: “It is important the community council reflects the concerns and issues within Stonehaven and the surrounding district of its residents, businesses and those visiting.

“For too long Stonehaven has put up with disruption and atrophy of a number of issues be it the AWPR, or the Bervie Braes, flooding or banks closing.

“It is time representatives such as the community council say ‘Stonehaven first’ and the AWPR is one of those major issues of concern and disruption that has brought cost, damage and disruption to ordinary lives and businesses – the effects have been undervalued for too long.”

Project lead manager John Wilson said his senior project management team will be at the meeting, which will take place at the Invercarron Resource Centre from 7pm.

At the meeting members of the public will have the opportunity to “have their say, influence and take back an element of control” on the timetable of the AWPR works.
