Carnoustie ready to say bonjour

-

Carnoustie Twinning Association is preparing to roll out the red carpet for the silver anniversary of its connection with Maule in France.

The original twinning charter was signed in Carnoustie on the May 9 1992 after groundwork by the historical societies in both Carnoustie and Maule to establish that there were, in fact, true historical reasons that such an arrangement should be promoted.

In the intervening period there have been exchanges between the citizens from both towns on an annual or bi-annual basis, during which customs and traditions of each town have been observed.

Burns Suppers were held in alternate years in Carnoustie or Maule and joint European city visits have also been carried out.

Visitors to Maule have included members from the various clubs and societies from Carnoustie, as well as local dancers and pipers who have taken part in town galas and highland games.

A party of 26 Maulois is due to arrive in Angus later this week, with a welcome ceilidh being held in the town’s Legion on Friday.

This year’s guests will visit Arran, Dumfries House, the Kelpies, Arbroath, St Andrews and Dundee as well as viewing the three bridges across the Forth.

Carnoustie Twinning Association is looking forward to visiting Maule in October to celebrate the countersigning of the charter in 1992.
